Jim Triplett (formerly of Baltimore synth-punk outfit Videohippos) and Ilenia Madelaire met in 2008 and formed Romantic States a few years later. The minimalist rock twosome has since released 4 albums, and Corduroy In Italy, it's 5th full-length, is out on Baltimore label Gentle Reminder. Guitar, drums, and vocals… The beautifully simple formula remains intact, but the music "feels more expansive" on Corduroy…, and tracks like "Barren Idol," "Part Lemon," and "Stay Close," while retaining the intimacy, pack the potential to become huge pop anthems. On other songs, Triplett and Madelaire touch on hope, regret, self-love, loneliness, and more, and the duo's "clear-headed use of space, melody, noise, and subtle humor" curate a impactful, emotion-filled listening experience. Other highlights include: "In My Arms," "Ronnie," "Lunch Date," and "Young Love."
