"I would record synths and drum hits and re-sample, re-pitch, twist and blend the sound until it was 'ruined' and then salvage it again in an attempt to make something coherent," says Howard, and this is the exact point that makes listening to Ruinism a pleasurable experience; a seeming disarrayed arrangement of sonic bits form a "'brutal landscape," but Lapalux "makes for softness and slivers of beauty," which creates a stunning contrast to the decontonstructed, ominous boundaries of the 12-tracker.
